Exercise 1 · Awareness
Meet Your Fear
Write down the exact fear that's been stopping you. Not a vague one. The specific thought that plays on repeat in your head.
• Is it: People will think I have no friends?
• Is it: I'll be alone and feel lonely?
• Is it: I'm not brave enough for this?
Write the exact words. The one that makes your chest tight when you imagine booking that flight.

A note from Valeria

I know what it feels like to want to go,
and still hesitate.

Valeria · Founder of Travel Girls Club

I’m Valeria, founder of Travel Girls Club.

I love travelling on my own, but I haven’t always felt confident doing things alone. There was a time when even going for a coffee by myself felt uncomfortable.

In 2012, I booked my first solo trip to Aruba. I spent the flight wondering what I’d done. That trip became the beginning of learning to trust myself, one experience at a time.

Years later, I created Travel Girls Club because I also wanted connection. Today, our community brings together more than 122,000 women who love exploring the world.

I wrote From Dream to Reality for the woman who keeps imagining her own adventure, but hasn’t quite found the confidence to begin.

Through reflections and practical exercises, I’ll help you explore what’s holding you back and choose small steps you can actually take.

You don’t need to feel completely ready. You can start with where you are.
With love, Valeria @valerivasok

You want to go… But these thoughts keep getting in the way.

“People will think I have no friends.”
“I'll be alone and feel lonely.”
“Something will happen and I won't know what to do.”
“I'm not brave enough for this.”

If these thoughts sound familiar, you're not alone. This guide helps you understand them and practice moving through them, one small step at a time.

How the guide works

Build trust in yourself through small, real actions.

1
Name the fear
Write the exact thought that stops you.
2
Question the belief
Find where it came from and whether it’s true.
3
Practice a small action
Try one manageable activity alone: slightly new, at your own pace.
4
Reflect
Compare what you feared with what really happened.
5
Choose a next step
Plan a mini solo experience and commit to it.
A look inside

From naming your fear to doing something about it.

Each exercise builds on the last, so you don't just think differently, you act and see what really happens.

Exercise 1 · Awareness
Meet Your Fear

I want you to do something brave right now. Grab a notebook and find somewhere quiet.

I want you to write down the exact fear that's been stopping you. Not a vague one. The specific thought that plays on repeat in your head.

• People will think I have no friends?
• I'll be alone and feel lonely?
• Something bad will happen and I won't know what to do?
• I'm not brave enough for this?

Write the exact words. The exact thought as it comes to your mind. The one that makes your chest tight when you imagine booking that flight.

There are no right or wrong answers here. This is just about becoming aware. Because we can't move past something if we don't first recognize it.

Exercise 2 · Awareness
Where Did This Come From?

Now I want you to look at what you just wrote. That fear you named? It didn't appear out of nowhere. It came from somewhere.

Ask yourself: where did this thought come from?

Did someone tell you this at some point in your life? Maybe a family member, a friend, or someone who made you feel like being alone was something to be ashamed of? Did something happen that made you start believing this? Or is it something you've been carrying for so long that you forgot it wasn't actually yours to carry?

Write whatever comes up. You don't need to have all the answers. You don't need to trace it back perfectly. Just notice.

So take a breath. You've already taken your first step. Let's keep going.
